Just when we thought Zimbabwe was heading for complete meltdown #45, a historic agreement between the ruling party and the opposition has given its citizens a chance at peace.

The three parties, Zanu-PF, MDC and a faction of the MDC, signed a memorandum of understanding that commits themselves to putting an end to the violence and conflict. In the hope of establishing a peaceful society, the agreement signals a surprising 180 degree change in attitude by Robert Mugabe. Although his motives are not yet clearly known, a chance at peace is well worth the attention this agreement is receiving.
