Thursday night witnessed the official endorsement of Senator Barack Obama as the Democratic Party's nomination for the US presidential elections in November. The festivities at the convention, which resembled the euphoria at a rock concert, demonstrated the excitement Obama supporters have for their candidate.

Obama's speech was received well in different quarters as well as being picked apart in the blogosphere. The Moderate Voice and Talk Left are just two of the many bloggers banging away at their keyboards after Thursday night's Denver par-tay. A deeper analysis of Obama's acceptance speech can be found in the New York Times.

While talking about iconic American (um..) black men, we've got to give a special mention to Michael Jackson who celebrates his 50th birthday today. All the best MJ.
