To say that democracy is in jeopardy would be a bit premature. However, given the demonstrations taking place around the world, many citizens are becoming increasingly fed-up with their government's inability to stem global price increases.

We often regard a threat to democracy as being terrorism, bad governance and corrupt leaders but the recent increase in the price of energy, oil, food and pretty much everything else has delivered a serious blow to many developing country's economies. The result has been escalating violence and civil disobedience in many countries.
