OUTREACH / INTRODUCTION
LEARN MORE

From the cinema to the classroom, the Why Democracy? series has the ability to inform minds and question our understanding of democracy.

The outreach strategy for Why Democracy? is to provide a comprehensive learning tool for schools, universities and organisations based on the films. By using film as an educational tool, the outreach strategy incorporates traditional learning mechanisms with innovative multimedia activities.

The Why Democracy? project has affiliated itself with institutions and organisations around the world. Organisations such as ITVS and BpB, has recognised the educational potential of the Why Democracy? films and developed material to further our understanding of democracy.

The Steps International DVD edition was developed with support from the United Nations Democracy Fund.

AFRICA OUTREACH

During October 2009, Steps International begun its outreach programme on the African continent. A number of organisations that dealt with democracy, citizenship and human rights were identified and asked to partner with Steps International in its bid to inform the widest possible audience about their roles and responsibilities in democratic societies.

By using the films and facilitator's guide as a tool to start discussion, Steps is confident that a dialog can be created between citizens about what they can do to have a positive impact on their societies.

Those organisations that have been contacted by Steps and any others in the fields of democracy-building, human rights and citizenship that would like to join our outreach network can contact outreach@whydemocracy.net to participate.
